7 Reasons Autumn Is Better When You're a Dog Owner

7 Reasons Autumn Is Better When You're a Dog Owner

There is something rather special about autumn when you share it with a dog.

The mornings become cooler, the leaves start changing colour and suddenly going for a walk no longer involves wondering whether you and the dog are going to melt before you reach the end of the road.

Here at The Ringo Pack, Ringo certainly doesn't need much persuading when someone mentions walkies.

So grab the lead. Autumn has arrived.

1. Autumn dog walks are hard to beat

There is nothing quite like walking through crunchy leaves on a cool autumn morning with your dog beside you.

Woodland walks become colourful, parks become quieter after the summer holidays and cooler temperatures can make longer adventures much more appealing.

Of course, your dog's definition of an autumn walk may involve considerably more mud than yours.

2. Muddy paws are practically compulsory

You can leave home under blue skies.

Twenty minutes later your dog has somehow located the only muddy patch within three miles.

That's talent.

Autumn means keeping a towel near the door and accepting that immaculate floors may have to wait until spring.

3. Hoodie weather returns

Dog owners spend a surprising amount of time outdoors.

That's why autumn is when hoodies and sweatshirts really earn their place in the wardrobe.

And if you're going to wear one while walking your favourite dog, we think putting your actual dog on it makes rather more sense than wearing a generic one.

Our personalised Dog Mum and Dog Dad clothing lets you add your dog's photograph and name, turning everyday clothing into something that's uniquely yours.

4. Your dog has absolutely no concept of bad weather

Rain?

Wind?

Cold?

Your dog has consulted the schedule and can confirm that walkies is still happening.

Apparently weather-related cancellations are not covered by the Dog Ownership Agreement.

Sorry.

5. Autumn brings proper cosy evenings

One of life's underrated pleasures is coming home after a chilly walk, making a hot drink and settling down somewhere warm while your dog occupies approximately 83% of the available sofa.

This is also prime personalised-mug territory.

Tea tastes better when the mug has your dog on it.

We don't have scientific evidence for this, but Ringo seems fairly confident.

6. There are a few autumn hazards worth remembering

Autumn is beautiful, but dog owners should keep an eye on what curious noses discover.

The Royal Kennel Club warns that acorns and conkers can make dogs ill, while autumn fungi can also present dangers. PDSA similarly recommends preventing dogs from eating conkers, acorns and unidentified mushrooms during autumn walks.

September is also still grass-seed season, so checking paws and coats after walks is sensible, particularly for dogs with longer or curly coats.

If you're concerned your dog has eaten something potentially harmful or is showing unusual symptoms, contact your vet.

7. It's another season of memories together

Ultimately, that's what matters.

Dogs don't care what month it is.

They care that you're there.

Every muddy walk, stolen spot on the sofa, ridiculous photograph and unexpected adventure becomes another little part of life together.

That's really why The Ringo Pack exists.

Ringo wasn't the inspiration because he's a dog.

He was the inspiration because he's our dog.

And we know other dog owners understand exactly what that means.
